This post originally contained an audition piece of a girl called Forever, when she auditioned for the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance. She wasn't the best technical dancer, her contemporary style was self taught and she danced from the heart, and that was what wowed everyone in the room of the audition hall. Her energy was raw, her emotions were real and it was a really inspiring performance.
At the end of her piece, she was interviewed by the judges and asked how did she feel after doing that dance. Her reply, rasping for air after her powerful performance, went something like this "Amazing... when I dance... it feels like nothing can touch me... nothing... so in the zone". I remember this because what she was expressing is how I feel about modelling. When I in front of the camera with the photographer, it feels like we are creating an artwork together. In a photograph, I feel like I am in another reality, living another life. Makeup, post production, lighting, angles, styling can all make me look like a different person living in a different time, in a different place... basically create any kind of story of choice. That's why I find modelling so creative, liberating and inspiring.
